CORONAVIRUS ALERT INFORMATION

At HPI Northwest Surgical Hospital, we are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation on a daily basis. We are closely following information and guidance provided by the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are prepared should a case of COVID-19 present at one of our facilities; however, we ask for the public’s help to prevent the spread.

We ask individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms to call your health care provider before physically heading to the hospital, clinics or the emergency room. If an individual is seriously ill and requires urgent attention because of significant respiratory symptoms (severe shortness of breath, etc.) or other critical symptoms, then we are happy to provide care at any of our facilities.

NEW VISITATION POLICY

What is the new visitation policy?

  • Community Hospital and Northwest Surgical Hospital continue to support no social visitation. Physical distancing is still required.
  • While no “visitors” will be allowed, every patient is allotted a Patient Representative, an adult 18 years of age or older designated by the patient who need not be a formal legal representative, but rather someone whom the patient seeks emotional support from and who the patient may seek assistance with decision making in considering care options.
  • Adult inpatients will be allowed to have one (1) Patient Representative. We ask that this one Patient Representative be the only individual to the patient room during the hospitalization.
  • For inpatient surgeries, Patient Representatives will be asked to wait in a designated area during the surgery. This may be in the patient’s room, a designated waiting room, or their car for limited periods of time dependent upon space availability.
  • Adult outpatients will be allowed to have one (1) Patient Representative present during outpatient appointments & procedures, including ER visits.
  • For outpatient surgeries, due to outside summer temperatures, the Patient Representative will be allowed in the waiting room, when possible. Patient Representatives will be required to wear a mask and maintain physical distancing of 6 feet.
  • For preadmission testing and pain department appointments, the Patient Representative will be asked to wait in their car during the appointment/procedure.
  • For pediatric patients, two Patient Representatives will be allowed and following the guidance above for inpatient and outpatient surgeries. We ask that these two Patient Representatives be the only individuals to the patient room during the hospitalization.
  • Community Hospital and Northwest Surgical Hospital are discouraging large groups in public areas such as waiting rooms, lobbies, and other common areas. Thus, Patient Representatives may be asked to wait in their car to maintain physical distancing of 6 feet in these areas.
  • All Patient Representatives entering the facility will undergo a screen which will include the presence of fever or illness within the previous 72 hours. If the screen is positive, the Patient Representative will not be allowed to enter the facility.
  • All Patient Representatives are required to wear a mask as all times while in the facility and to perform frequent hand hygiene. Any Patient Representative who refuses to comply with these requirements will be asked to leave the facility.
  • For patients confirmed with COVID-19, Patient Representatives will not be allowed, unless the patient is a minor. For minor patients, Patient Representatives will be limited to two at a time. Exception requests must be made to the Nursing Director or House Supervisor.

Why are Community Hospital and Northwest Surgical Hospital updating the visitation policy?

  • The new restrictions on patient visitation at its hospitals are in place to protect patients, their families, and all Community Hospital and Northwest Surgical Hospital caregivers.
  • These temporary restrictions are being enforced out of an abundance of caution, and to mitigate the potential transmission of the COVID-19 illness or influenza.
  • Community Hospital and Northwest Surgical Hospital are following guidelines and best practices issued by the Centers for Disease Control.
  • This is a temporary inconvenience, but we have implemented this policy in the best interests of our patients, caregivers, and the community.
